Crews say the fire started from an improperly discarded cigarette. No injuries are reported.

Omaha Fire Department crews were dispatched to a house fire around 2 a.m. Thursday, after a 911 caller reported smoke inside and flames at the back of the home. Crews reported smoke coming from the eaves of a split-level house and declared a working fire. Firefighters found fire on the rear exterior of the home and inside a primary bedroom and bathroom area. The fire was under control about 12 minutes after crews arrived. Officials said an electrical meter on the back of the home was arcing and was monitored until OPPD shut off power. OPPD and MUD secured utilities to the home. Two adults, two children, and three pets were evacuated.Officials said smoke and carbon monoxide alarms alerted the occupants. The Red Cross responded to help the homeowners with lodging options. The home is in Sarpy County, outside Omaha city limits. The Nebraska State Fire Marshal was consulted and determined the fire was accidental, caused by an improperly discarded cigarette.
