Athletes at the Milan Cortina Olympics are embracing the return of spectators and family members, contrasting the silence of the 2022 Beijing Games.”Crossing that finish line and not being able to see your family and your friends and everybody that’s been a part of your journey, was kind of sad,” said Brittany Bowe, a Team USA speed skater.Evan Bates, a Team USA ice dancer, shared the excitement.”People are excited, people are pin-trading, maskless, and those things, I think, you know, are an integral part of the Olympic Games,” Bates said.Andrew Heo, a Team USA speed skater, expressed his joy at having his family present.”Being able to just know that my family is there,” Heo said. “Having my family here is super special. I know how much they wanted to be at Beijing. So yeah, just having them here, having my family here and knowing that they’re up there cheering for me, I think, is something that I’m super excited to experience.”The athletes are grateful for the experience in Beijing and the Olympic mystique, but are thrilled to be at the Milan Cortina Games with their loved ones.The Olympic village continues to be a place where global friendships are formed, adding to the overall experience.
