Chloe Kim denied a third straight Olympic gold in snowboard halfpipe
– What’s underrated to me? I don’t know, these are kind of tricky. Moisturizing I think is underrated. Men having a skincare routine is super underrated. Come on, let’s get to it. Hi, my name’s Chloe Kim. I’m a professional snowboarder and these are my insights to wellness. (bright music) The craziest thing I’ve ever done for wellness is maybe I consumed a bunch of olive oil once because I heard it was good for my gut. It was, but not in the right ways, but it did cleanse everything. Wellness to me means everything. I think it’s a mindset. I think it’s a lifestyle. I think I know that I am the best version of myself when I’m taking care of myself whether it be moving my body even for 10 to 15 minutes, trying to eat clean, being mindful of the type of people I interact with. I think all of those contribute to like my well-being and wellness. Trends that I see that I would never personally do. I don’t think such a thing exists for me. I think I’m very open-minded when it comes to wellness. My for you page is filled with gorgeous girls, like doing gorgeous things. I’m so quick to buy everything, try everything. I saw heatless curlers and so I tried ’em and I’m obsessed. I don’t go to bed without popping my hair and all the colostrum stuff, the zincs and the hyaluronic acid, like whatever it is that has potential to glow me up, sign me up for that, like I’m down. Wellness rituals that I did before anyone else was doing them. I have like a seven to 10 step skincare routine, which might seem crazy to some, but the product calls to me. I’m like, “Ugh, okay, I need my toner now.” It’s my me time. I love looking at myself in the mirror too, so why not do both? Okay, so I’m in bed all day. The weather’s perfect, and I lay in bed until like noon. And I’m from Southern California, so we’re big on brunch. So I’m going, getting out of bed, putting a cute little outfit on, doing a little blush, little eyeliner, mascara, and then I’m getting brunch with my friends. And then after brunch, I come home, I take a nap. After my nap, maybe I’ll play some video games and then I’ll get ready to go to dinner and then I’ll have dinner, come home, chill, go back to sleep. Oh, I’m gonna throw in a lymphatic drainage massage before bed. That would be perfect. Basically, I love sleeping, so the more sleep, the better the day. So I have one day off in the week in my training schedule. That’s Saturday for me where I don’t work out, I don’t have anything and I have a full on rot day. I’ll only get out of bed to go to the restroom or to eat and it’s like straight back to bed. Sometimes I’ll just lay there and look at the ceiling. Seriously, ’cause I love to think. Like my mind is always on and busy and working. So sometimes I’ll just stare at the ceiling and think about conversations I’m gonna have, conversations I might have, arguments I might have, what I want to eat. Like there’s so many things to think about and it’s so satisfying. I feel so rested the next day. I like feeling pretty when I’m snowboarding, like I love feeling pretty. So I’ll make myself as pretty as I can and then I’ll head out the door. The more things I do for myself, whether it be makeup or like taking care of my skin or doing my hair, the more confident I feel and I think that translates over to my snowboarding. Sometimes I wonder if I don’t have a good day on the mountain, I’m like, ah, like was it because I didn’t massage my cheekbones before I went out? And I am a little superstitious, so I kind of need to do things a certain way. Like there are a certain pair of earrings that I need to have in, like it’s a whole thing. I think I have 13 total on both ears, which I know is kind of a bad number in some places so I’m considering doing one more just for vibes, but I’ve had them the whole time. I’m like, maybe thirteen’s my lucky number. Well, it’s four right now, so I’ll just leave it there. Toxic wellness tips I would toss. I mean, I think wellness for everyone looks different, so I don’t wanna speak on like what I think no one should do. Like toxic wellness tips to me is more if you’re trying to like compare yourself and like your life to someone else’s that you see online maybe, like something that could totally be fabricated and edited and you’re like holding yourself to the same standard, I think that could be considered toxic. Like let’s not compare ourselves to anyone. Like let’s just do what makes us feel great ’cause that looks completely different for everyone and anybody. Oh my gosh, underrated tips. I don’t know, these are kind of tricky. What’s underrated to me? Moisturizing I think is underrated. Men having a skincare routine is super underrated. Come on, get to it. Oh my gosh, doctor’s appointments are like my doom. You know what it is, is this is kind of a… I mean, I’m not embarrassed, I’ll say it. For so long, my mom did this for me and I think I’m in this pivotal moment in my life where now I’m becoming more independent. I mean, I moved out when I was 18, but I still called to ask her like, “Hey, what’s my social security number? Like, do you know where my passport is? How often do I have to go to the doctor?” And so now that I’ve gotten control of my health, it has been hard. I am good right now, I have a doctor, I have a dermatologist, I have a dentist, which is good. I think I like him, I think he likes me. I have an optometrist, but I also like completely disregard everything he says to me because I’m not wearing contacts. The only time I’d really need contacts is when I’m snowboarding. But there are some things that I just don’t need to see. As long as I just see like where I kind of need to land, that’s all that matters and I can see that with blurred vision, so we’re fine. I don’t drink coffee, unfortunately. I’m more of a matcha person. I drank coffee for about a year and then COVID happened, so I stopped and then when I tried it again, it gave me the worst stomach pain. I guess it might be too acidic for me, but I really like matcha, so I’m not complaining. I’m not like, yeah. I love protein smoothies. A lot of the times, I’ll just buy them, but I think when I make my own, like a chocolate peanut butter vibe, I love that combo, so I’ll just do cacao powder, bananas. I use almond milk and then I’ll do protein powder and did I say peanut butter, I’ll throw that in. Yeah, that’s about it, it’s just peanut buttery. So you wanna know how often I wash my hair every three days. Facial, I try to do once a month. I love a Korean facial. Every other day, I get physical therapy a lot. I feel like it counts as a massage. I mean, it hurts though, it’s not like your relaxing massage, like I’m sweating ’cause I’m in so much pain. I get enough sleep most days, like 80% of the week. As long as I go to bed by midnight, I’m perfect. I work out six days a week. I don’t shave my legs. I got laser hair removal and then I just stopped going, but now I get like three hairs. So you have to look real close to see them. And if you see some then like maybe you shouldn’t stare at my legs for that long. I will get a mani-pedi once a month. But the tea is is I have a hard time with like my toenails ’cause I always lose those. I’m missing two toenails right now. Do not look at my feet ever. My girl at home, she has Gel X toenail extensions that I use very, very often and they come out all the time. One time I was on a plane and my fake toenail came out and I didn’t know what to do with it. Like I didn’t know, so I just threw it in the seat. So somebody’s definitely gonna find my fake toenail. Now this is a confession, like confessing to something so insane. But it makes me mean, this is my story. Ooh, I don’t go to the spa very often. I’d like that to change. Yeah, it’s something I’ll change. Gonna go more. When I’m home, I go to therapy twice a week. I’m a little messed up, but I’m getting better, I’m getting better. And I know that after every session, I’m getting a little bit better and that’s all that matters. I was supposed to have my session with her today, actually, but I’m here. But this is kind of therapeutic. Does spiraling count as meditating ’cause I do that a lot, I spiral. I’m like, “Oh my gosh, this is the worst thing that’s ever gonna happen and it’s definitely gonna happen and oh my gosh, this person hates me and oh my gosh, like does my dog hate me?” Like that’s the spiral, I do that all the time. It’s fun, it’s like I lay in bed and I’m ready. All right, well thanks for watching and be well.
