THE WIDENING OF 156TH STREET, 156 FROM WEST MAPLE TO FORT. HERE’S WHAT THE STRETCH LOOKS LIKE. NOW WE’RE OUT DRIVING STORM WATCH SEVEN ON IT, ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION, BUT THE CITY PLANS TO CHANGE IT TO FOUR LANES DIVIDED BY A MEDIAN, MEANING TWO LANES EACH DIRECTION. The city of Omaha plans to turn 156th Street from just north of Maple Street through the Fort Street intersection into a four-lane road.The city says it’s currently looking at different options for the roadway’s design, but the four lanes will be divided by a median, meaning two lanes in each direction.Installation of sidewalks, storm sewers, curb and gutter, ADA-compliant curb ramps, retaining walls, street lighting and intersection improvements, including roundabouts, are all also planned. There will be an open house on Tuesday, Feb. 24, for the project. The public open house is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Concordia High School (15656 Fort St.).
