A freshman basketball player at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma shattered the backboard with a powerful dunk during a game against John Brown University, halting the match and earning a spot on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10.”Some history that I’ve caused. I think I’m one of the first people in the school to do something like this,” said Chris Yapo, the freshman basketball player. “This is my first year playing college basketball, and I didn’t expect my first year to go and do something like this.”Yapo expressed his excitement about the national attention.”I was just thinking like, ‘Imagine NBA players tuning in on ESPN and seeing me do that dunk,'” Yapo said. USAO’s head men’s basketball coach Landon Hughey also had a comical reaction to the impressive dunk.”We’ve had a lot of highlights this season. This dunk was by far the most expensive,” Hughey said.Yapo is an international student from England.”I’m just trying to make sure we win, you know. I actually wanted to finish the game. That’s why I dunked with so much authority,” he said.He also shared his future intentions.”My mentality is to try and break every backboard in the conference. Not ours though,” Yapo said. The game between the Drovers and John Brown University remains unfinished, with a future date yet to be scheduled.
