KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN. STARTS WITH BREAKING NEWS, AND WE’RE FOLLOWING MULTIPLE BREAKING STORIES TONIGHT. FIRST, A SINKHOLE SWALLOWS TWO VEHICLES NEAR AKSARBEN VILLAGE. THANKS FOR JOINING US. I’M JULIE CORNELL. I’M QUANECIA FRASER. THIS HAPPENED JUST A FEW HOURS AGO AT 67TH AND PACIFIC. NO ONE IS HURT AND YOU CAN SEE THEY JUST FINISHED PULLING ONE OF THOSE VEHICLES OUT OF THE GROUND JUST ABOUT 15 MINUTES AGO. OMAHA’S NEWS LEADER IS LIVE AT THE SCENE WITH TEAM COVERAGE. KETV NEWSWATCH 7 EDDIE MESSEL HAS WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THE SITUATION. FIRST, BETH CARLSON HAS BEEN SPEAKING WITH WITNESSES AT THE SCENE. JULIE QUANECIA THAT’S RIGHT. WE’RE HERE OFF OF 67TH AND PACIFIC, WHERE WE SPOKE WITH BOTH DRIVERS OF THE TWO VEHICLES THAT SUNK BENEATH THE GROUND. BOTH SAYING IT WAS A STATE OF SHOCK WHEN THEY LOOKED UP AND REALIZED THAT THEY WERE NO LONGER ON THE ROAD. WE ALSO SPOKE WITH ONE WITNESS WHO SAID HE DROVE ON THE ROAD JUST TEN MINUTES PRIOR, SAYING HE KIND OF FELT THAT DIP IN THE ROAD AND ANOTHER WHO LIVES NEARBY, WHO SAID HE CAME OUTSIDE TO FIND MULTIPLE PEOPLE HELPING BOTH THOSE DRIVERS OUT OF THEIR CARS AND UP BACK ONTO THE STREET. OMAHA POLICE SAY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT IN THIS SINKHOLE, BUT ONE WITNESS SAYS THAT NEARBY HOUSES REALIZED SOMETHING WAS OFF. I JUST DROVE BY HERE NOT TEN MINUTES BEFORE IT HAPPENED, AND WENT INTO MY HOUSE AND NOTICED OUR WATER PRESSURE WAS LIKE SUPER LOW AND JUST LIKE, LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND SAW POLICE RUSHING TO THE SCENE. AND SO IT HAPPENED PRETTY QUICK. I THINK THEY WERE SITTING STILL THE WAY THAT THEIR CARS KIND OF LIKE SANK DOWN INTO THE GROUND. NOW, LOCAL TOW TRUCK DRIVERS ARE WORKING TO CLEAR BOTH THOSE VEHICLES. YOU CAN SEE THERE ARE NO LONGER INSIDE THE SINKHOLE, BUT POLICE AND FIRE ARE STILL ON ROAD RIGHT NOW WORKING ON THAT. WE SPOKE WITH BOTH DRIVERS, ONE WHO SAID THAT HIS INSURANCE COMPANY WAS EVEN SURPRISED TO GET THE CALL. LOTS UNFOLDING AND WE’LL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS WE LEARN MORE, BUT FOR NOW, LIVE IN OMAHA. Together, he and another bystander pulled the SUV driver out to safety. Neither of the drivers was injured.
