Former Husker football player to fill vacant NU Board of Regents seat
Gov. Jim Pillen appointed a former Nebraska football player to the Board of Regents.Joel Makovicka of Omaha will replace Elizabeth O’Connor as District 4’s representative.O’Connor resigned in January after she was charged with DUI in a crash that caused life-threatening injuries to the passenger of another car.READ MORE: University of Nebraska Regent Elizabeth O’Connor officially resigns months after being charged with DUIMakovicka will serve in the role through Jan. 7, 2027, as the seat will be up for election then.“I appreciate Joel’s willingness to step into this role, and I have great confidence that he will serve the Board well, and with the best interests of the University in mind,” said Pillen.
