Iowa lawmakers are advancing a bill that would require minors to obtain parental permission before checking out books deemed harmful in public libraries.Some said this was an example of government overreach, but others claimed the bill protects families.”Iowa’s taxpayer-funded libraries must above all else provide a safe and innocent space for children to learn and grow,” said Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Jeff Pits.”It seeks to transform our sanctuaries of literacy and learning into sites of surveillance.
