A leader at the Islamic Center of Omaha says the congregation is hoping for a quick end to the conflict. After U.S. and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader and several other leaders, Iranian members of the congregation have differing opinions and a variety of emotions, said Muhammad Sackor, a leader at the mosque.Sackor, an imam at the mosque, said he met with several Iranian members of the congregation on Sunday afternoon before they broke their fast during Ramadan. Although Sackor is not Iranian, he said he was asked by Iranian members to speak on their behalf.He said an Iranian member of the congregation, who has family in an impacted area, hasn’t heard from her family members since the strike. “She was here asking us to make prayer that God will resolve the situation in peace,” Sackor said. “We were all hoping for the diplomatic channels could work and everything could have been solved by diplomatic process. We know very well that (strikes) will always lead to human casualty and economic cost.”Sackor said they are considering the safety of the Arab and Muslim community locally, too. “When there’s a major situation just like this. There’s a blowback that we as a Muslim community, we experience,” he said.The Islamic Center of Omaha has experienced instances of vandalism in the past. He noted that nothing has happened locally in the last few days and thanked the Omaha Police Department for being responsive in the past. “We pray that the situations will, and very quickly, in order to save lives and also to protect the Muslim community here in the U.S.,” Sackor said.Congressman Don Bacon supports the strikes on Iran, but as members of Congress, mostly Democrats, call for a War Powers Resolution vote to restrain the administration, Bacon supports debate, he told KETV through a spokesperson.Bacon said in a statement, “I’m for Congress debating this and taking a stand. I support removing the regime who killed so many Americans.
