The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium announced the death of an okapi Monday. According to a post on social media, the 24-year-old female was named “Kali.”Zookeepers said she began having age-related challenges in late February. They said the decision was made to humanely euthanize Kali as her quality of life declined. “Kali was known for her independence and soft nature,” wrote the zoo. “Those who cared for her often joked that it was Kali’s world and the rest of us were simply part of it. The zoo said Kali lived well beyond the average life expectancy for an okapi and that she will be deeply missed.
