A New Mexico man known as the “King of Valentine’s Day” surprised his wife with her very own candy store experience this year, continuing his tradition of grand gestures. For more than 30 years, Lonnie Anderson of South Valley, New Mexico, has dreamed up one-of-a-kind Valentine’s gifts, from a full-size carousel in their front yard to a 30-foot bouquet of flowers. This year, he gave his wife Anne her very own candy store for the day.Anderson teamed up with a friend who owns an art store that supports people with disabilities. Together, they rented out the Bluebird Candy Factory in Utah, where his wife got to build her own custom box of sweets from around the shop. In the window, they even made giant jelly-bean hearts.Anderson said he does all of this to remind his wife how great she is, but also to spread love. “When you’re spreading love and you’re doing something grand, you can’t do that by yourself. You know, that’s just something that has to, you have to involve other people. And if you want to do something really beautiful and amazing with your life, you have to ask for help,” he said.Surprisingly, Anderson said some of these grand gestures cost about the same as dinner and flowers.
