80, THOSE DELAYS ARE STARTING TO PICK UP. 38,000 POUNDS OF ICE WILL TRANSFORM INTO SCULPTURES THIS WEEKEND. IT’S PART OF THE UPCOMING NEBRASKA SNOW SCULPTING CHAMPIONSHIPS. IT WILL GO DOWN AT THE HEARTWOOD PRESERVE STARTING TOMORROW. RUNS UNTIL SUNDAY. THE 15TH, 128 ICE BLOCKS, EACH WEIGHING 300 POUNDS, WILL BE USED TO SHOWCASE ARTISTS BEST SKILLS AND CREATIVITY. BUT ONE COMPETITOR SAYS IT’S NO LONGER ABOUT THE COMPETITION, RATHER, KEEPING THE COMPETITION ALIVE. WINNING CERTAINLY IS A DRIVER AND A MOTIVATOR, BUT IT’S NOT THE ONLY REASON. AND NOW IT’S KIND OF TRANSITIONED MORE INTO HOW DO WE KEEP THE SPORT GOING AND GET NEW PEOPLE INTO IT AND CONTINUE TO PUSH THE SPORT AND THE ART AS IT IS? IN MY OPINION, BOTH SPORT AND ART COMPETITORS WILL BE JUDGED ON CREATIVITY, TECHNIQUE AND THE MESSAGE THEY CONVEY. I WONDER IF THEY’RE WISHING THAT IT WAS A LITTLE BIT COOLER. YEAH.
