OMAHA — Nebraska Medicine is expanding its Omaha reach with construction of a nearly $100 million health building underway at a busy 42nd and Farnam Streets intersection.
The Farnam Street Center will rise four stories on the intersection’s southeast corner and is expected to open to patients in September 2027.
The new 94,000-square-foot facility will become the main location for Nebraska Medicine’s dermatology program and also will help meet increasing demand for outpatient gastrointestinal and behavioral health services, according to a Nebraska Medicine statement.

In addition, the structure will support general internal medicine, which Nebraska Medicine called a pillar of extraordinary primary care.
“We know there is an urgent need for Behavioral Health services in the community. This project is a meaningful step toward expanding our world-class care and supporting those who rely on us,” said Dr. Michael Ash, Nebraska Medicine’s CEO.
The reconfigured 42nd and Farnam intersection has transitioned to two-way traffic and is undergoing improvements, including widened sidewalks.
A spokesperson said Nebraska Medicine and private donations are paying for the $99.3 million project and that no public funding from the University of Nebraska was involved. She said Nebraska Medicine was not releasing the donor amount at this time.
Historically, Nebraska Medicine was a joint nonprofit venture between the public University of Nebraska and Clarkson Regional Health Services, but earlier this year, the NU Board of Regents approved an $800 million deal for the university to buy out Clarkson’s half and related properties. Despite the ownership structure change, Nebraska Medicine will continue to operate with its own budget and board of directors appointed by the University of Nebraska.
