An armed man was shot and killed over the weekend inside the perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s home in Florida.Investigators identified the man shot and killed as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin of North Carolina. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Martin entered the north gate of Mar-a-Lago around 1:30 a.m. Sunday as another vehicle was exiting. Two Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy confronted him. Authorities said law enforcement ordered Martin to drop what he was holding, which was a gas can and a shotgun, but Martin raised the gun, prompting officers to shoot and kill him.FBI Director Kash Patel said on social media the bureau would be “dedicating all necessary resources” to the investigation.The FBI is asking people who live near Mar-a-Lago to check their security cameras that could help investigators. So far, investigators have not determined a motive. The Moore County Sheriff’s Department in North Carolina said Martin’s relative reported him missing early Sunday morning.Trump was in Washington for the weekend and was not in Florida at the time of the incident. The event is concerning as it occurred just a few miles from where a man attempted to assassinate Trump in 2024 while he was golfing.
