The Omaha Fire Department says the PulsePoint app has saved at least one person in just the first month since its launch. The app encourages bystanders to jump into action during a cardiac emergency to perform CPR. The department shared new statistics Monday in a post on social media.”We’re already seeing the power of a community ready to help,” writes OFD.Officials say 1,716 people downloaded the PulsePoint app, and 580 AEDs have been registered since it launched across the Omaha metro. During a recent cardiac arrest, Omaha fire says PulsePoint alerted 24 nearby responders and identified an AED nearby. It says bystanders began CPR and defibrillation before EMS arrived. After being transported to the hospital, the person was later awake and talking that evening. “The most important number is not in the statistics. It’s the number of people willing to step forward when someone in our community needs help,” says OFD.
