A man accused in the shooting of a 6-year-old on New Year’s Eve in 2024 changed his plea in the case.Aaron Wallace pleaded no contest to accessory to a felony in the shooting, which occurred near 26th and Blondo streets on Dec. 31, 2024.Witness statements included in court documents describe that the 6-year-old and a sibling were sitting watching TV in their home when they heard five or six gunshots. They then realized a bullet had gone through the 6-year-old’s leg and become lodged in a bedroom wall.Previous coverage: Omaha woman accused in shooting that injured 6-year-old on New Year’s Eve changes pleaAfter follow-up searches and interviews, investigators arrested Wallace and 22-year-old Tayzhia Hampton and cited Wallace’s sister.Investigators found an AR-15-style rifle hidden in Wallace’s bedroom and were able to confirm Hampton was at Wallace’s home on the night of New Year’s Eve.According to the affidavit, all three people involved in the shooting incident cooperated with the investigation.READ MORE: Accused shooter apologizes for shooting bullet that struck 6-year-old on New Year’s Eve, court documents sayOfficers said Hampton admitted to shooting the home on Blondo Street: “Tayzhia admitted to shooting the firearm last and intended to strike the ground and accidentally shot the firearm upwards. Tayzhia wrote a handwritten letter to the victim apologizing for the incident.”In January, Hampton pleaded no contest in the case. She is scheduled to be sentenced on April 20.
