WELL, IF YOU OR YOUR KIDS LOVE TO SING OPERA, OMAHA IS LOOKING FOR NEW TALENT OF ALL AGES. HERE TO TELL US MORE ABOUT IT IS THEIR DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS, KYLE THOMAS. KYLE, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. YEAH. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. SO OPERA OMAHA IS HOLDING AUDITIONS FOR YOUTH AND ADULT CHORUS MEMBERS FOR YOUR 2026 TO 27 SEASON. TELL US, WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? YEAH, SO WE ACTUALLY JUST ANNOUNCED OUR 26, 27 SEASON. SO IF YOU KNOW OPERA OMAHA, WE BRING IN ARTISTS FROM ACROSS THE ENTIRE WORLD, PROFESSIONAL OPERA SINGERS TO SING ALL THE LEAD ROLES. HOWEVER, ALL THE CHORUS ROLES ARE FROM THE TALENT HERE, RIGHT HERE IN OMAHA AND COUNCIL BLUFFS. AND SO FAR, 2627 SEASON. WE ARE LOOKING FOR SPECIFICALLY YOUTH SINGERS. THERE’S TWO PRODUCTIONS THAT ALL HAVE A PRETTY LARGE YOUTH CHORUS. THE FIRST IS LA BOHEME, WHICH HAS A VERY FAMOUS CHRISTMAS MARKET SCENE THAT FEATURES CHILDREN RUNNING AROUND THE MARKET. AND WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOUTH SINGERS AROUND AGE 10 TO 18, WITH UNCHANGED VOICES THAT CAN SING IN THAT. AND THEN OUR FAMILY OPERA SERIES, WHICH WE LAUNCHED LAST YEAR, WILL CONTINUE IN 27 WITH A PRODUCTION CALLED THE PIGEON KEEPER, WHICH WILL FEATURE A VERY LARGE CHILDREN CHORUS THAT IS INVOLVED IN THE ENTIRE SHOW. AND SO THAT’LL BE PERFORMED AT THE ROSE THEATER IN JANUARY OF 27. BUT WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOUTH SINGERS RIGHT NOW TO FIGURE OUT WHO’S GOING TO BE IN FILLING IN THOSE PARTS. AND I KNOW YOU SAID 10 TO 18, BUT KIDS YOUNGER THAN TEN CAN AUDITION IF THEY CAN READ MUSIC AND HAVE STRONG VOICES. IS THAT RIGHT? THAT’S RIGHT. YEAH. IF YOU CAN READ MUSIC AND YOU CAN SING REAL WELL, WE’LL, WE’LL WE’LL CONSIDER IT. AWESOME, AWESOME. AND SO HOW SHOULD A PERSON INTERESTED IN AUDITIONING PREPARE FOR THE AUDITION? YEAH. SO FOR AUDITIONS, WE USUALLY SAY SING, PICK A SONG THAT SHOWS YOU OFF IN A WAY LIKE SHOWS YOUR ABILITY. SHOW US YOUR VOCAL RANGE. AND USUALLY EACH AUDITIONER GETS ABOUT 5 TO 10 MINUTES TO BE ABLE TO SING ONE SONG. WE’LL PROVIDE A PIANIST, AND YOU’LL GET TO MEET OUR HEAD OF MUSIC AND OUR ARTISTIC TEAM. AND IT’S REALLY JUST COME AND BE YOURSELF. AUDITIONS ARE GOING TO BE ON FEBRUARY 23RD AND 28TH, BUT YOU DO HAVE TO SIGN UP AND REGISTER IN ADVANCE BY FEBRUARY 9TH SO PEOPLE CAN FIND THAT INFO AT OUR WEBSITE. WHY SHOULD PEOPLE TAKE PART IN SOMETHING LIKE THIS? WELL, I THINK IT’S JUST BEING A PART OF OMAHA’S ARTS AND CULTURE SCENE. I LOVE WHEN WE HAVE ARTISTS COME IN AND THEY ALWAYS WALK AWAY WITH WOW, LIKE, YOUR CHORUS IS REALLY GOOD AND THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT TRAVEL ACROSS THE WORLD AND THEY SAY, WOW, THE TALENT HERE IN OMAHA IS REALLY EXCEPTIONAL AND IT’S JUST SOMETHING REALLY NICE TO BE ABLE TO PUT OMAHA TALENT ON STAGE AS WELL, ALONGSIDE SOME OF THE WORLD CLASS SINGERS THAT WE CAN BRING IN. CAN YOU REMIND US WHEN AND WHERE THIS IS? YEAH, SO AUDITIONS WILL BE ON FEBRUARY 23RD AND 28TH. THEY’LL BE AT OUR UPPER OMAHA REHEARSAL STUDIO, AND THEY CAN FIND INFORMATION TO REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 9TH, JUST TO SIGN UP FOR A SLOT ON UPPER OMAHA. ORG. ALL RIGHT. KYLE THOMA
