New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs on Friday pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation and other criminal charges stemming from an alleged dispute with his personal chef. At the arraignment at Massachusetts’s Dedham District Court, Diggs was scheduled to next appear for a pretrial hearing on April 1.Diggs was originally scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 23, but that hearing was postponed until Friday, less than one week after Diggs and his teammates were defeated in Super Bowl LX. Charging documents allege that on Dec. 2, 2025, Diggs smacked a private chef over a paycheck dispute at a Dedham residence. According to court documents, Diggs “tried to choke using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”The paperwork alleges the woman “…had trouble breathing and that she felt like she could have blacked out. She said that as she tried to pry his arm away, he tightened his grip. At that point the male threw her onto the bed. He said something to the effect of ‘Thought so.'”The police report showed the woman had some redness on her chest, but there were no pictures taken as evidence.Text messages showed the chef wanted to be paid out “for the season,” saying Diggs “[…] wasted (expletive) time” and “I’m out of your life.””I won’t be paying you (expletive). (Expletive) I look like, paying you and another chef? Is you high?” Diggs responded.Diggs’s former lawyer, David Meier, released the following statement on his behalf:”Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”The New England Patriots organization has stood by Diggs as the legal process has played out, saying in a statement they’re aware of the accusations and, “We support Stefon.”An NFL spokesperson said the league is aware of the matter and has been in contact with the organization. Diggs has not yet faced related disciplinary action.
