Rhode Island hockey rink shooting victims identified as shooter’s son, ex-wife

Police said the gunman appeared to have been going after members of his family.

A shooting at a Rhode Island hockey rink on Monday afternoon killed the shooter’s son and ex-wife, according to North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi.Officials said the shooter, identified as Robert Dorgan, 56, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooting also wounded three other people, including the shooter’s former mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lombardi said.The victims have been identified as Dorgan’s ex-wife, Rhonda Dorgan, and Dorgan’s adult son, Aiden Dorgan.Rhonda Dorgan died of her injuries at the arena and Aiden Dorgan died later at the hospital, where he was taken to be treated for his injuries.The three victims who were injured in the shooting were identified as Linda and Gerald Dorgan, who were the parents of Rhonda Dorgan. Both Linda and Gerald are currently hospitalized in critical condition.The third victim was identified as Thomas Geruso, a friend of the Dorgan family, who is also in critical condition.The shooting happened during scheduled high school hockey games at Pawtucket’s Dennis M. According to court documents, Dorgan’s ex-wife filed for divorce in 2020. That same week, Dorgan accused their father-in-law of making threats, according to court documents. Those charges were later dropped.Lombardi said the last time there was a call for service to the family’s home was in 2020.A woman who was seen leaving the Pawtucket Police Department after the shooting told sister station WCVB that her father was the shooter.”My father was the shooter,” she said, without giving her name. “He shot my family, and he’s dead now.”She also said, “He has mental health issues.”
