Iowa town searches for missing St. Patrick’s Day mascot after ransom note left behind in 1996
You’ll find *** lot of the traditional in Imogene, Iowa. There’s corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes in the dining room at the Emerald Isle, and people here say it’s that tradition that brings them back. So this is an Irish settlement here. It’s where most of our families are from, and people just love to go to small towns to celebrate Whitney Daley’s parents own the Emerald Isle. Even she. Into the act. You like St. Patrick’s Day? Yeah. How come? Because my grandma makes my hats and stuff and my clothes, but she does *** good job. Yeah, she does, doesn’t she? Outside, the tradition continues as people kneel down to kiss the Blarney stone. How’s that? And they’re starting *** new tradition here. It’s *** cross between rugby and soccer. They call it the Blarney Bowl. But all is not well here in Imogene on this Saint Patrick’s Day. It seems that someone stole the town mascot. Donald is his name. And how do they know he was stolen? Well, they received this ransom note. It says, What leprechaun returned, Swedish opponents must be ahead at halftime of the Blarney Bowl, or he will be buried alive. Main Street, Imogene. But as fate would have it, Main Street Imogene is where Donald was found safely. Neil Keisling says he found him in his barn. Did you find him this morning or what? Oh yeah, I picked him up this morning out there. I think some of these people are kind of smelling an inside job here. What do you think? Well, no, I think it’s *** sweet.
