Streetcar construction ramps up this week in six new work zones

Omaha Public Works says in addition to utility work continuing, streetcar track work is scaling up. There are six new work zones and closures to watch out for this week.10th Street and Capitol AvenueEastbound Capitol Ave will close between 10th and 8th Streets this week for mainline track work. A detour option is Riverfront Dr to Abbott Dr.8th and Farnam Streets8th Street will close from Douglas to Farnam in both directions; northbound 8th St will be closed from Harney to Douglas.This is for mainline track work.12th Street south of Harney12th Street just south of Harney will close for construction of a water main. The city says access to residential buildings and businesses in the area will be maintained.This closure is expected to last one month.28th Street28th St will close between Farnam and Douglas to build a new water main and continue the Farnam St bridge rebuild, Farnam at 26th St is also closed for this work.Drivers heading west will have limited access to businesses.This closure is expected to take three months.Harney Street near Turner BoulevardLane restrictions will shift on Harney St near Turner Boulevard; traffic will be shifted from the northern lanes of Harney to the southern lanes near Turner Blvd.This shift goes into effect on Thursday.Farnam from 34th to 37th StreetsTrack construction on Farnam is expanding west and closing eastbound Farnam at 37th St. NAVIGATE: Home | Weather | Local News | National | Sports | Newscasts on demand |
