If you’ve been tuning into coverage of the Milano Cortina Olympics, there’s one international team rising above the rest to bring home the cute-stuffie gold: Team Poland.Team Poland has been attending the Olympics with an unusual mascot: a stuffed, smiling pierogi. So far, it’s mostly been seen at the skating events, being held aloft by skaters Vladimir Samoilov and Ekaterina Kurakova when they were in the “kiss and cry” zones. After seeing it, you may want one of your very own — or at least something like it.“The cute little guy has become a symbol of national pride, representing one of Poland’s most beloved traditional foods at the global stage,” Poland Explore writes on Instagram. “While we don’t know if he has an official name yet, social media is already demanding merchandise.”Although Jellycat offers plenty of food plushie options — tinned fish, cheese fondue, a strawberry tart — there are no pierogi. The same is true for Squishmallows and Target’s Gigglescape, other go-tos for cute stuffies. There are strawberry crêpes, ramen noodles, sushi rolls, cupcakes, and chocolate cake, but pierogi don’t seem to be on the menu. However, when expanding the search to include dumplings, you’re in luck. Even though the fillings are different and they’re from different cuisines, these adorable plushie options can fill the pierogi-shaped plush hole in your heart, if only until a true pierogi option comes along. The Ditucu dumpling, which looks closest to the Team Poland mascot, even comes in a version that has three mini dumplings in different colors. The Team Poland pierogi isn’t the only mascot attracting attention at the Milan Cortina Winter Games.Team USA’s first openly Gen Z mascots are stoats — similar to weasels — named Tina and Milo. The stuffed animals, which have been photographed on the podium with Team USA medal winners, are named after the two host cities of Cortina and Milano. Some sizes of plushies of Tina and Milo are sold out, but some are still available here.
