Third victim dies from injuries in Rhode Island hockey rink shooting
A person who was wounded in the shooting at a hockey rink in Rhode Island last week has died, bringing the death toll to three.According to the Pawtucket Police Department, Gerald Dorgan, 75, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. Dorgan’s daughter, Rhonda Dorgan, and grandson, Aidan Dorgan, were also killed in the shooting.Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien said he was heartbroken that another person died because of the shooting.“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic act of violence,” he said in a statement.On Feb. 16, police said Robert Dorgan, 56, entered the Dennis M. Lynch Arena just before 3 p.m. during a high school hockey game and opened fire on his ex-wife, son, his former in-laws, and a family friend. The two other people injured were identified as Thomas Geruso, a family friend, and Linda Dorgan, Rhonda Dorgan’s mother.Robert Dorgan, the alleged shooter, was subdued by bystanders before turning the gun on himself.No motive has been given for the shooting, although court documents reveal Dorgan’s gender transition and mental illness were a long-running source of family conflict.In the aftermath of the tragedy, several guns and ammunition were recovered from the alleged shooter’s Maine home and personal storage unit.The Associated Press contributed to this report
