THE CAJUN NAVY TELLS US THEY WILL BEGIN HELPING IN THE SEARCH AROUND NANCY’S HOME IN ARIZONA TOMORROW AT THE REQUEST OF GUTHRIE’S FAMILY. The United Cajun Navy is assisting in the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie. The United Cajun Navy confirms to sister station WDSU there are search and rescue crew members on the way to Arizona. The volunteers say an advance strike team is on the way and will begin searching the area Wednesday. They plan to use scent-specific dogs. They say they offered their services to federal and local law enforcement “several weeks ago” and were told they were not necessary. A spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy says “we respected their response to our offer of help, but we felt like we would eventually be a factor in the search.” They say the organization has been preparing a plan to join the search. Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Feb. 1 from her Tucson home. The United Cajun Navy tells WDSU that “family and friends” requested their assistance.
