A real possum was spotted hiding among plush stuffed animals in an airport gift shop in Australia’s Tasmania state.Video of the moment was captured on camera by Melissa Oddie inside the terminal gift shop at Hobart Airport and has since gone viral on social media.CNN reports that airport officials said the possum was safely captured and has been relocated, and that the gift shop area was sanitized.According to the Associated Press, airport retail manager Liam Bloomfield said the Australian brushtail possum was first spotted among the plush kangaroos by a passenger who was browsing in the gift shop. After attention grew, the animal eventually left the gift shop and made its way into the terminal before it was collected without harm.According to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy’s website, common brushtail possums are the largest of Australia’s possums. The marsupials, which have large, pointed ears and a dark muzzle, are known for their bushy prehensile tails, which can grow to 40 cm in length, according to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. The airport retail manager said he’s not sure how the possum got into the store or why it chose to hang out among the plush toy animals.“I’m imagining it saw some of the plush animals that were for sale on the shelf, and it decided to make its home with those. It wanted to blend in,” Bloomfield jokingly said to the AP.It’s unclear how long the possum spent in the store.
