Welcome to the Weekend – March 6
It’s Friday, so that means it’s time to welcome you to the weekend and joining us with some great ideas to keep you entertained from Visit Omaha, Omaha’s official tourism authority. Good morning and welcome, Erin O’Brien. Good morning, Erin. Tell me what’s going on this weekend. Well, we have *** big variety of things going on. We’ll start with the Negro Motorist Green Book at the Durham Museum. This is an immersive exhibition that explores what travel looked like for African Americans in mid-century America and how the. Book served as *** guide to more welcoming stops. Uh, the Green Book was published from 1936 to 1967 and listed restaurants, gas stations, and lodging where black travelers felt more welcome, especially in the era of Jim Crow laws and sundown towns. Uh, the exhibition includes historic footage, photos, and, uh, firsthand accounts that highlight the fear that *** lot of these travelers felt, but also the resilience and innovation. That kept the families moving along. This is an important one to see, and you can see it through May 3rd at the Durham. That’s amazing. I’ll have to go down there myself now. What else is going on this weekend? Well, we’re changing gears *** bit. I know some of us are sad the Olympics are over, but have no fear, ice skating is here. Disney on Ice presents Road Trip Adventures is *** CHI Health Center Omaha with several opportunities to see it all weekend long. Um, OK, and will that just be this weekend? Uh, just this weekend, yes, so join Mickey and his friends, um, on road trip adventures in the skating spectacular that features scenes from Frozen, Aladdin, and Moana. Uh, you’ll see *** show stopping numbers, colorful costumes, and lots of favorite characters. This is geared towards families with elementary age kids. Though nostalgic grown-ups will also enjoy it, fun for the whole family, right? And then you said there’s also something going on at the Joscelyn, right? You got it. Arttastic Saturday is tomorrow at the Jocelyn from 11 to 2. This is *** free event. They have *** different theme every first Saturday of the month for this event. This month’s theme is Women’s History Month. So you come in, you grab *** program and ***. Map and then you check out the engaging activities throughout the museum like story time with Omaha Public Library, drop in sketching, and also *** special performance with Indian celebration dances and there’s even more than that also happening tomorrow at the Jasly two free public tours and they’re offering free admission to Dripping Earth, which is their current major exhibition. If you get hungry, grab *** snack or lunch at their cafe. The food is excellent. Well, it sounds like if you need something to do this weekend, we’ve got it all. There’s *** lot going on. Definitely. Well, Visit Omaha has several other events going on this weekend that are worth checking out. Remember, if you missed anything, it’s online at KETV.com. Thanks again for being here this morning and welcome to the weekend. Welcome to the weekend.
