Months after winning a defamation lawsuit, Grammy-nominated rapper Afroman is now suing one of the deputies who sued him.

The “Because I Got High” rapper posted to his Facebook page, saying, “Happy official birthday to me. And for my birthday present, I’m suing the officer who stole my $400, then had the audacity to sue me for 1,500,000 dollars.”

In 2022, Adams County sheriff’s deputies raided the rapper’s home on a drug/kidnapping warrant. No charges were filed and Afroman then used his own security footage to make viral diss-track music videos mocking the deputies.

Seven deputies then filed a defamation lawsuit, seeking nearly $4 million in damages.

The case tested the limits of parody and the license artists can take in social commentary directed at public figures. The deputies, collectively, sought nearly $4 million in damages.

Afroman won the lawsuit. “We did it, America! Yeah, we did it! Freedom of speech! Right on! Right on!” the rapper shouted outside the courthouse.

Now, Afroman is turning the tables, suing one of the deputies who filed the initial suit against him.

He claims the suit was malicious, baseless, and filed just to harass him.

He’s now seeking damages under four claims: malicious prosecution, abuse of process, intentional infliction of emotional distress and tortious interference with contract.

He’s seeking damages of at least $25,000 per claim, plus attorney’s fees, lost income, emotional distress damages and punitive damages, with a jury trial demanded.

Afroman lives in Winchester, about 50 miles outside of Cincinnati.
