On Tuesday, July 8, Disney Parks revealed that as he approaches his later years, Benny — who also goes by “Benny and the Jet,” “Benito,” “Loaf of Bread,” and a handful of other nicknames — will officially retire as a security dog cast member.
“Thank you, Benny, for 49 (dog) years of service,” Disney Parks wrote on Instagram alongside various clips of the golden retriever on duty. “Every magic moment was safer because of you.”
At his retirement party, Benny ate his first hot dog since he no longer needs to be on a strict diet. He also got to play with tennis balls and received plenty of pets from his coworkers.
Benny’s K-9 handler, Kevin, will now get to take care of Benny during his retirement in the comfort of his own home.
Kevin began his career at Disneyland as a regular security officer before applying to become a K-9 handler.
Kevin and Benny’s main duties were monitoring the security areas at the entrance and ensuring that guests and fellow cast members stayed safe in the park.
