IN THAT CASE, A CONNECTICUT MAN WILL SPEND NINE YEARS IN PRISON FOR HIS ROLE IN A NATIONWIDE ROMANCE SCAM THAT AFFECTED VICTIMS HERE IN CENTRAL IOWA, PROSECUTORS SAY THE 30 YEAR OLD HELPED RUN THE SCHEME USING FAKE ONLINE RELATIONSHIPS TO CONVINCE VICTIMS TO SEND MONEY. AUTHORITIES SAY HE COLLECTED MORE THAN $1.5 MILLION, INCLUDING MORE THAN $400,000 FROM ONE IOWA VICTIM. INVESTIGATORS SAY MANY VICTIMS DRAINED SAVINGS OR WENT INTO DEBT.
