Going dancing: Nebraska men’s basketball punches ticket to March Madness

All right, the Huskers get *** 4 seed in the NCAA tournament. That’s the 2nd best seed for Nebraska in program history. Remember, 1991, the Huskers got *** 3 seed but were upset. By Xavier in the opening round, Nebraska, the only power conference team that has not won *** game yet in the big dance. That could change Thursday in Oklahoma City against Troy. Now, despite their lack of wins in the big dance, Nebraska is ***. Huge favorite against Troy. They’re favored by 13.5 points. And if you haven’t heard it yet, you’ll hear it time and time again is that the NCAA tournament is all about matchups. With more on the Huskers’ path in the big dance, let’s bring in our Husker hoops insider, Robin Washer of Husker Online. What I like about this matchup for Nebraska is that Troy, you know, they’re not the biggest team. You’re not gonna have *** big Oscar Clough or anything like they saw against Purdue or, um, you know, against Illinois or those types of Big 10 front courts. That being said, Troy is *** team that plays *** really aggressive style of, of defense. They’re gonna pressure you, full-court, court, three-quarter court, half-court, and then they’re gonna crash the glass with *** front. that features 3 players, 67, or taller. So you look at the things that have given Nebraska problems down the stretch, turnovers, and defensive rebounding. Well, Troy does both of those things pretty darn well. But one thing that Troy does lack, I think, is just veteran guard play. I mean, you know, they’re, they’re strong in the front court, but this is *** game where I think Nebraska, especially if they’re able to finish possessions, can dictate the pace, although Troy wants to play fast, Nebraska can do so under Control, they take care of the basketball, they’re gonna have size advantage, um, on offense, in the paint, and should be able to exploit just their overall depth and size against *** Sun Belt team in Troy. But beyond the X’s and O’s of this game, um, you know, going back to the fact that this is in Oklahoma City, it should be *** heavy Husker crowd, probably 80, 90% red in the building, which should be *** massive X factor. For Nebraska. You know, they play so well when they’re motivated by their home crowds. You’ve seen it in Sioux Falls or down in Kansas City, and especially at Pinnacle Bank Arena. I think this is going to be every bit of that type of home environment for the Huskers, uh, as they’ve had all season long, which in *** game like this can be the tipping point to finally get them over the hump and earn that first-ever NCAA tournament victory.
