OPD: Armed man fired toward officers before deadly incident
The Omaha Police Department has released new information regarding the officer-involved shooting that left one man dead on Saturday.

The Omaha Police Department has released new information regarding the officer-involved shooting that left one man dead on Saturday.
Officers were called to the area of 55th and Pine streets for a check well-being of a suicidal party just before 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Omaha Police Department said shortly after arriving on scene, a man fired a gun from inside the residence toward three officers.

OPD released a body cam image from Saturday’s deadly officer-involved shooting.

The man, later identified as David Asbury Jr., 44, exited his house and discharged a weapon two more times in the direction of officers.
According to Omaha police, one officer returned fire and Asbury Jr. fell to the ground inside the home. He was declared dead at the scene. The OPD says a firearm was found next to him.
This case will be presented to a grand jury once the investigation is complete, per state law. It requires a grand jury to be summoned when a person dies while in the custody of, or while being apprehended by law enforcement.
One officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation, according to the Omaha Police Department.
