Nashville police: 1 dead, 3, hospitalized after Kentucky driver hits pedestrians at crosswalk

One person has died, and three others are injured after police say an 87-year-old man from Kentucky drove through a downtown Nashville intersection.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Broadway.

Metro Nashville Police said in a news release that the pedestrians had been lawfully crossing the street when a car continued through the crosswalk, striking four pedestrians.

Police said that one of the pedestrians, a 58-year-old Australian man, died after being struck.

The three remaining victims are:

A pedestrian from Jacksonville, Florida, who is in critical condition.
A pedestrian from Knoxville, Tennessee, who is in serious condition.
A pedestrian who is in critical condition. No additional information has been made available.

The driver of the car was identified by MNPD as an 87-year-old man from Kentucky. Police say the man is in critical condition.

The man was driving with his wife and a caregiver. The wife reportedly suffered minor injuries. The caregiver reportedly suffered no injuries.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell released a statement regarding the collision.
