As doors opened at CHI Health Center, thousands rushed inside, eager to get their seats and hear from new Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel.Adam Straight is the new CEO of the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, and it’s also his first Berkshire Hathaway weekend as CEO.”It’s just been amazing to see all these people starting to enjoy themselves throughout the week and really get into the facility and enjoy what we have to offer,” Straight said.The CEOs aren’t the only new thing at this year’s meeting. Berkshire Hathway is debuting a new clear bag policy. Only clear totes about 12 inches by 12 inches or small clutches and wallets roughly 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches are allowed. If you bring something bigger, MECA is also offering bag check at the north and south ends of the arena.In preparation for increased traffic, the Department of Public Works paused some streetcar work along with opening some lanes around downtown. 28th Street now has an open lane along with a southbound lane on Turner Boulevard onto Dodge, along with a Farnam lane going west.The department anticipated 10th and Capitol being the busiest intersection in terms of pedestrians, so it added some walkways to allow them to cross safely.If you are driving downtown today, please drive slowly and watch for those walking. MECA said they planned for roughly 40,000 guests, so there will be more pedestrians than usual. Please avoid blocking crosswalks so they can cross streets safely.There is a possibility of more traffic officers near construction sites as well to help manage traffic flow. Open lots for parking include lots near Charles Schwab field along 10th and Mike Fahey Streets.
