2026 primary election results: Douglas County voters decide on nominees in 12 races
THEY NEED FOR THEIR CHILDREN BECAUSE TAXES ARE TOO HIGH. AT THE COUNTY LEVEL, MULTIPLE SEATS ARE UP FOR ELECTION THIS YEAR. THAT INCLUDES THE ROLE OF COUNTY PROSECUTOR KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S AARON HAGGERTY IS COVERING THE DOUGLAS COUNTY ATTORNEY’S RACE. HE JOINS US FROM THE HISPANIC ART CENTER OF OMAHA. AARON. YEAH. JULIE. BILL. THIS IS WHERE THE NEBRASKA DEMOCRATIC PARTY WATCH PARTY IS. AND OF COURSE, THEY’RE WATCHING THE CD TWO RACE CLOSELY. AND I’D SAY SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHEERS OF THE NIGHT WERE FOR CINDY BURBANK IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY, FOR SENATE, AND FOR LYNNE WALTZ FOR GOVERNOR. AND BACK TO THAT DOUGLAS COUNTY ATTORNEY PRIMARY VOTE. MICHAELA, MICHAELA DANNER LEADS BARELY 50.7 TO 49.3%. THAT’S A LEAD OF LESS THAN 508 VOTES, WITH MORE BALLOTS TO BE COUNTED. AND BOTH CANDIDATES TOLD KETV EARLIER TODAY THAT THEY KNOW VOTERS WANT CHANGE. AND I ASKED DON KLEINE HOW HE SEES HIS POTENTIAL OPPONENTS. I’M FEELING GOOD. I’M FEELING POSITIVE. I’M FEELING CONFIDENT. I HOPE THE COMMUNITY RETURNS, THE LOVE THAT I’VE GIVEN TO THEM, BECAUSE I REALLY THINK IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE, AND I REALLY HOPE THE COMMUNITY IS READY FOR THE CHANGE IS READY FOR ME TO BE THAT CHANGE AGENT. WHAT I’VE LEARNED DURING MY CAMPAIGN IS THAT VOTERS ARE READY FOR CHANGE, AND I BELIEVE I HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, THE LEGAL EXPERTISE AND THE LEADERSHIP TO BRING TRANSPARENCY AND BE RESPONSIVE TO WHAT THE COMMUNITY NEEDS. THEY WANT THE COUNTY ATTORNEYS TO BE FAIR. OBVIOUSLY, WE’RE CURIOUS AS TO WHO’S GOING TO BE ON RUNNING AGAINST US. AND SO WE’RE PREPARED FOR WHOEVER IT IS. IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER TO ME, BUT SO IT’S JUST A CURIOSITY MORE THAN ANYTHING. TONIGHT. AND A CLIENT WASN’T EVEN ON THE BALLOT AS THE ONLY CANDIDATE, HE AUTOMATICALLY ADVANCED TO NOVEMBER.
