50th Wheelchair Softball World Series to take place in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. —

Nebraska Adaptive Sports helps people with disabilities participate in activities they love, such as wheelchair softball.

In August, they’re hosting the 50th Anniversary USA Wheelchair Softball World Series, right here in Omaha.

“This our fourth time in Nebraska hosting the World Series, which is all the teams across the country, usually about 18 to 20, come in to play,” said Nebraska Adaptive Sports President Brent Rasmussen.

Rasmussen calls the game a blend between baseball and softball.

“We’re still doing slow pitch underhand, but we’re using a larger softball so we don’t have to use gloves since we’re using our arms to push our wheelchairs. And, basically most rules are same, except for we have different classes of, disabilities and we all get on the field ten versus ten and compete,” said Rasmussen.

Player Morgan Prusha says a motorcycle accident changed the way she was able to play the sport she loved.

Her team members have helped her stay positive.

“These guys have lifted me in areas that I didn’t even know existed,” said Prusha.

She says getting involved in adaptive sports has brought the light of sports, but in a whole different attitude.

“Going out with friends that are a whole new community and a whole different outlook on life, where you thought you weren’t going to be able to do a lot of these things, and it’s really opened up a new chapter,” said Prusha.
