7 Can Help Kids Back to School Backpack Drive underway

OMAHA, Neb. —

Thousands of metro area kids will go back to school, a little more confident after receiving a brand-new backpack this weekend.

“Thanks to the generosity of KETV viewers, we’ve got backpack stuff with a variety of school supplies. Everything from pens and pencils and notebook paper to tissues and hand sanitizer and a full spectrum of school supplies in every backpack,” said Andrews.

The 7 Can Help Kids Back to School Backpack Drive has been going on for nearly 30 years now, but Todd Andrews with the Salvation Army says the rising cost of supplies post-pandemic has made it more important than ever.

“School supplies are just more expensive now than they’ve been in the past, and that puts an extra crunch on the budgets of families in need at a critical time of year,” said Andrews.

The drive allows students to pick out a backpack of their choice, complete with colored pencils, notebooks, and rulers.

All families need to participate is proof of registration at a metro area school, but Andrews says if you’re in need and you don’t have proof, they can still help you out.

Andrews encourages families to come out as early as possible to receive a backpack as supplies are limited.
