Nationwide American Airlines ground stop in effect due to IT outage, FAA says

All American Airlines flights were temporarily held as part of a nationwide ground stop Tuesday evening due to an IT outage, according to the airline and federal officials.

Shortly after an advisory from the Federal Aviation Administration was issued, American Airlines officials posted a statement on the outage to social media.

In a statement posted to X, American Airlines confirmed that it was experiencing a systemwide IT outage that temporarily grounded flights.

Around 7:20 p.m. ET, airline officials said the issue had been resolved.

“A technology issue briefly impacted connectivity for some of our systems on Tuesday evening,” the statement says. “Systems are coming back online now and flights are departing again. We put a temporary ground stop in place while our teams worked to resolve the issue. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
