Andy Reid says Chiefs had to ‘yank’ Travis Kelce out of training camp practices

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is 36 and entering his 14th season with the team.

August practices are not meant to be about proving he belongs, but that hasn’t made him eager to sit them out.

The Chiefs finished their 2026 training camp on Thursday.

Head coach Andy Reid, speaking with reporters, pointed to Kelce’s work as an example for what’s now the second-youngest roster in the NFL.

“You have examples like Kelce, he’s the oldest guy on the team and came out every day and worked to where you had to yank him out of there to give him a breather,” Reid said.

Another veteran is starting linebacker Nick Bolton.

“There’s no excuses when you have the old guy out there running routes and stuff like that,” Bolton said of Kelce. “It’s been fun to watch him work.”

One dynamic Reid touched on with Kelce was the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

“He likes to give EB the business, and that’s always entertaining too,” Reid said. “It keeps everybody on their toes.”
