Bellevue police ride-along leads to officers arresting driver with 5 pounds of marijuana

What started as an invitation to accompany an officer during a traffic patrol quickly turned into anything but. As part of the Sarpy County Traffic Task Force, Bellevue police have one officer on the bridge monitoring speeds.Other officers line the on-ramp waiting for calls.”Number one lane, the red Chevy pickup, 81 at 1676.0,” dispatch said.After that call, Officer Crystal Kenny is off.”The goal is to stop cars off the highway because it’s unsafe to stop on the highway, but sometimes violators don’t get the picture to pull off the roadway,” Kenny said.She begins the traffic stop, and the driver pulls over as KETV’s Izzy Fonfara Drewel watches from the officer’s patrol unit. Another officer joins her, and police ask the man to exit his truck. Kenny said the driver admitted to having five pounds of marijuana. He’s put in handcuffs and gets into the cruiser. The officers then pull boxes and bags out of the truck, looking for the alleged drugs before taking him back to the Bellevue police station. After dropping off evidence and finishing paperwork, Kenny goes back to Highway 75 to continue with the extra enforcement.
