Big Red Zone Expert Damon Benning compares Husker quarterbacks as they prepare for fall camp
LINCOLN, Neb. —
Anthony Colandrea is one of 11 Huskers named to the preseason watch list for the East-West Shrine Game, a postseason All-Star Game, and while Colandrea should win the starting role, TJ Lateef and Daniel Kaelin won’t roll over.

Lateef was forced into action during the 2025 season after Dylan Raiola broke his leg.

He started the final four games of the season, throwing for more than 900 yards and five touchdowns, while rushing for four touchdowns.
Lateef plus Kaelin’s presence back in Lincoln will no doubt push Colandrea during camp.
Big Red Zone Expert Damon Benning has more from Nebraska’s QB room.
“Lateef has been phenomenal. He’s well-liked, well-respected. I think the vibe in the quarterback room from top to bottom is very positive. The quarterback room is kind of an extension of what they want the culture to be — highly competitive and cheer for one another. You know, TJ’s not going anywhere any time soon when it comes to competing, right? So he’s gonna lay it on the line. Danny Kaelin, he’s going to lay it on the line,” Benning said.
