British residents in Bellevue gather to watch the royal wedding in 1981
BELLEVUE, Neb. —
British residents in Bellevue celebrated the royal wedding of the then Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.
The ceremony was aired live on TV in the wee hours of the morning, and the local British community got up and watched it with each other.

And when asked what the royal wedding meant to them, one attendee said:
“A little bit of home, a little bit of home, yes. I was unsure whether we would get up and see the ceremony live on TV. In the end, we decided to,” he said. “For lots of people who have come through several turmoils in Britain, it was nice that everything was forgotten today, and it was there. We were all British, supporting our possibly future king and queen.”
