Brother of 9-year-old Boston Marathon bombing victim finishes race, reflects 13 years after tragedy

Henry Richard, the older brother of Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard, finished the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon.Richard finished with a time of 4 hours, 34 minutes, and 13 seconds.”It was good; I couldn’t have asked for a better day,” Richard said. “The Boston Marathon is one of the best days of the year.” Monday marked the 13th anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. She died from ovarian cancer in November 2025.”Susan was a very special person. She directed CharityTeams, she coached team MR8, along with many other charity teams,” Richard said. “She was a great role model while I was growing up, and it’s hard to believe she’s gone. A lot of us definitely carried her in our hearts today while we ran.”Among others running in memory of Martin Richard is Annie Jackson.Jackson finished with a time of two hours, 58 minutes, and 40 seconds. “It’s so special. It’s such an honor to represent Martin and Team MR8,” she said.Jackson grew up running nearly every Boston Athletic Association event, starting at just 5 years old.Back then, running was just something she did as a kid, but it became so much more.“I fell in love with it because of the people and the community,” Jackson said.That community included the Richard children – Henry, Martin and Jane.“Henry and Martin were my teammates,” she said. “I was 10 years old, and a very young age to experience such devastating loss, but watching the city of Boston come together in the aftermath of the bombing and watching people come together and heal by being with each other and by running was inspirational.”
