Buc-ee’s sues small business in Ohio over logo branding

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio —

Support continues to grow for a small business in Ohio being sued by a popular convenience store chain that recently opened in the state.

Buc-ee’s has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Beaver’s Mini Mart in Beavercreek, Ohio, just outside of Dayton. The small business has found itself in the national spotlight over the suit.

Beaver’s, which has been in business for over two decades, is about 20 minutes from the first Buc-ee’s location in Ohio, which just opened in April 2026. Buc-ee’s claims that the mini mart’s smiling beaver logo could confuse customers.

However, the lawsuit has brought a surge of support for the small business.

“I don’t think it’s even close to the same thing,” customer Taylor Reese said. “Everything’s beavers in Beavercreek.”

“My family owns Mama DiSalvo’s. We’re a local business in Kettering, and we sympathize with the fact that this is a small local business,” Reese continued. “We want them to stay around and not get sued by a company that’s new to the area and way too big for them to fight against.”

Speaking while at the Ohio State Fair, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has weighed in on the situation, saying, “They need to dismiss this lawsuit. This is ridiculous … It is Beavercreek for heaven’s sake. You know. You expect to find in Beavercreek things named ‘beaver.'”

Beaver’s Mini Mart has two weeks to respond to the lawsuit.

A GoFundMe has already raised $34,000 toward a $45,000 goal to help with legal fees.

The community is also planning a cash mob on Friday to give the store an additional financial boost.

The gas station and convenience store chain has locations in 14 states, and the majority of its locations are in Texas.
