Cat named Toast Malone reunited with family after surviving fire and 3 days in wreckage
Out of the remains of this fire-ravaged apartment building in Utah came a miracle: A cat is back with his family after surviving three days trapped inside the building’s destroyed shell.
Firefighters in Salt Lake City say the cat’s name is Toast Malone.

“Hidden inside a closet—one of the only spaces left standing in the apartment after the roof collapsed—the resilient cat survived days of smoke, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water being sprayed overhead, and the destruction all around,” a Facebook post from Utah’s Unified Fire Authority said.
They say he was cold, wet and a bit scared, but otherwise okay.
A GoFundMe page says Toast’s owners were recently engaged and planned to marry in October, and the fire destroyed where they’d been planning to live when married.
“We are SO grateful he’s still alive,” said Madi, one of Toast’s owners. “Everything else is just stuff. We have even laughed about it … now that we have Toast back.”
