Omaha police rescue child from early Tuesday fire
Battalion Chief Danny Gates says the home was heavily damaged and unlivable after an early Tuesday fire.
OMAHA, Neb. —
Omaha police said officers rescued a 4-year-old child from a basement window during an early Tuesday fire.
It happened around 2:33 a.m. near 69th and Mason streets in Omaha. Four people were home at the time, and all got out safely.

When officers got there, they found the child trapped in the basement. The first officer on scene removed the basement window and pulled the child to safety. The child did not go to the hospital.
The fire spread to a neighboring garage before firefighters put it out.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by discarded grilling charcoal left on a deck.
