Child Saving Institute honors community partners with Jason Awards
The Child Saving Institute recognized two longtime community partners Friday night for their work supporting children and families.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —
Child Saving Institute honored the Council Bluffs Police Department and longtime volunteer photographer Debra Kaplan with its Jason Awards during Culinary Remix at the Mid-America Center.
Kaplan has spent years donating her photography skills to Child Saving Institute, documenting events ranging from ribbon cuttings to fundraisers. She said she hopes her work helps inspire people to support the organization’s mission.

The Council Bluffs Police Department was recognized for its ongoing partnership with Children’s Square, which became part of Child Saving Institute last year. The department holds monthly meetings with Children’s Square staff and provides support and resources for the shelter programs.
Sgt. Dale Schmitz said the partnership also gives officers a resource when children are in crisis or need protective services.
Child Saving Institute President and CEO Jaymes Sime said the organization provides child welfare, behavioral health and early childhood education services in Omaha and Council Bluffs.
