Democratic candidate James Leuschen drops out of Nebraska’s Second Congressional District race
A Democratic candidate is dropping out of Nebraska’s Second Congressional District race.James Leuschen, an Omaha native and Creighton University graduate, withdrew from the race in a statement Monday.He will still appear on the primary ballot in May because the ballot was certified on March 20.”Running for Congress and being the father my three little boys need right now are two callings that I cannot fully honor at the same time. So today, I am withdrawing from the race for Nebraska’s Second Congressional District. I do so with a heavy heart and with deep gratitude to everyone who believed in and supported this campaign. While this wasn’t an easy decision, we have an exceptional field of Democratic candidates to choose from in this primary, and I have no doubt the eventual nominee will be successful in November,” Leuschen said in a statement.According to federal filings, Leuschen’s campaign has raised $323,000, spent $97,000, and has $226,000 in cash on hand. He was fourth among Democrats in money raised and cash left. There are eight candidates remaining in the race: Republican Brinker Harding, Democrats Van Argyrakis, Crystal Rhoades, John Cavanaugh, Kishla Askins, Denise Powell, and Melanie Williams, and Libertarian Eric Foreman.Powell currently leads all Democrats in fundraising.
