Des Moines man accused of shooting Muscatine police officer arrested after 3 days on the run

Aug. 17 update: Mark Lee Jackson, a Des Moines man wanted for allegedly shooting a police officer during a traffic stop, was arrested Monday in Muscatine.

Police said Jackson shot the officer during a traffic stop in Muscatine on Friday.
Muscatine Police Chief said the officer is now recovering at home.

A Muscatine police officer was shot during a chase Friday evening, and the suspect involved is still on the run, according to authorities.
The incident began around 5:30 p.m., when officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect following a vehicle pursuit and foot pursuit in the 1400 block of Grandview. Police said the officer who was hit is injured but in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson, is still at large. Jackson is 5-foot-10 and 145 pounds, according to MPD, with blue eyes and thinning gray hair.
Authorities are advising people to not approach or attempt to contact Jackson, who they say is considered armed and dangerous, but encourage anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Muscatine Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at (563) 263-9922. Callers may remain anonymous.
Jackson has active warrants for parole violation and second-degree theft, according to an update from MPD on Saturday afternoon.
