My oldest son just started Little League, and I plan to be at every game. Over the past 20 years, I’ve given my all to the Mavs and made memories and relationships I’ll cherish forever. To the coaches and players I’ve worked with during that time, thank you. I look forward to finishing this season strong and remaining a lifelong supporter of UNO. Once a Maverick, always a Maverick,” Porter said.Porter has been the head coach of Omaha baseball since 2017, compiling a 189-270-2 record in 10 seasons. He led the Mavs to the program’s first NCAA Division I baseball tournament appearance in 2019.The Millard North grad also played for the Mavs from 2006-09 and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the 2009 MLB Draft.”Coach Porter represents the very best of UNO,” Adrian Dowell, UNO athletic director, said in a statement. “A Hall of Famer and one of the most accomplished student-athletes in our history, Evan has been an exceptional ambassador for Maverick Baseball throughout his nearly 20 years with the University of Nebraska at Omaha. This is certainly a bittersweet moment for our department as we are losing a true cornerstone of our culture, while also celebrating his decision to spend more time with his family. To my UNO Family,
This 2026 season will be my final season coaching Omaha Baseball. While this is a difficult decision, I’m confident it’s time for me put my family first. My oldest son just started Little League and I plan to be at every game. Once a Mav always a Mav!
