Election officials in Douglas and Sarpy Counties are still processing ballots from Tuesday’s primary election, but early turnout trends are already emerging across the Omaha metro.Douglas County Election Commissioner Danielle Jensen said turnout may end up slightly higher than the county saw four years ago, driven in part by increased interest in the Congressional District 2 Democratic race.“Four years ago, it was 32%,” Jensen said. “So we had gone with a higher estimate just because of the interest in the CD2 Democratic race.”READ MORE: Primary election results: Race for Democratic nominee in District 2 race too close to callJensen said an increase in mail-in ballot requests and in-person early voting likely contributed to the higher participation levels.In Sarpy County, Election Commissioner David Jones said turnout was slightly lower than recent primary elections, though still within the county’s normal range.“It’s slightly lower, but again, not significantly,” Jones said. “Over the last several elections for primaries, it’s been right in the low 20s.”Election officials say counting is still underway.
